If you’re interested in the history of the ancient Greek Macedonian Kingdom and want to experience one of the country’s most significant archaeological sites, a visit to the Vergina Tombs and the nearby ruins of the ancient city of Aigai is a must.
At this remarkable site, you can explore the stunning Vergina Tombs, where the remains of King Philip II of Macedonia, the father of Alexander the Great, were discovered.
Vergina is the modern village that now stands on the site of the ancient Macedonian city of Aigai.
In addition to King Philip II’s tomb, you can also visit three other royal tombs displayed in the Royal Tomb Museum of Vergina. The museum is built within a reconstructed tumulus (mound), the original burial site of these tombs. It showcases beautiful treasures unearthed from the tombs, making it one of the most important historical destinations in Macedonia.
