Nestled in the mountains of Souli, at an elevation of 1,600 meters and just 2 km from the village of Gliki, you’ll find the enchanting springs of Acheron. The river flows serenely through landscapes of unmatched natural beauty, its crystal-clear waters winding through gorges and forming tranquil ponds. The mythical Acheron continues its timeless journey, flowing toward the Ionian Sea at Ammoudia.

Starting from Gliki, where nature and tranquility reign, Acheron’s vibrant waters — fast-moving in winter but accessible in summer — weave through the land, creating a habitat for a rich and diverse ecosystem, protected by Natura 2000. Ancient plane trees cast their shade along the river, while towering rocks stand guard over its path. The sounds of birds filling the air seem to celebrate the river’s beauty, turning the “mythical sorrow” into a symphony of joy and life.
